Stay Safe on Campus

At OSUIT, your safety is our top priority. Whether you're a new student or a long-time member of our community, it's crucial to stay informed about personal safety practices. This guide provides essential tips to help you navigate campus life securely.

In Your Living Space

  • Always lock your door, even during short naps
  • Verify visitors' identities before letting them in
  • Keep doors closed and avoid hiding spare keys
  • Close blinds after dark and dress away from windows
  • Report suspicious activity to OSUIT Police immediately

While Driving

  • Have keys ready when approaching your vehicle
  • Check under and inside your car before entering
  • Keep doors locked and windows up
  • Stick to well-lit, busy streets
  • Never hitchhike or pick up hitchhikers
  • If threatened, use your horn and drive to a safe, public area
  • Maintain space between your car and others
  • Limit distractions like cell phones

Walking and Jogging

  • Travel with a companion, especially after dark
  • Stay in well-lit areas and remain alert
  • If followed, change direction and seek help
  • Keep valuables concealed and close to your body
  • Avoid wearing headphones that block ambient sound

Protect Your Property

  • Lock doors and secure vehicles at all times
  • Never prop open doors
  • Safeguard valuables and cash out of sight
  • Mark your belongings, especially textbooks
  • Don't loan keys or hide spares outside
  • Take valuables home during breaks

Remember: Your awareness is your best defense. Trust your instincts and don't hesitate to contact OSUIT Police if you feel unsafe.
